Holocaust Memorial Day 2013

Holocaust Memorial Day 2013
Holocaust Memorial Day took place at the Europa Gallery of Sutton Library
on the 27th January 2013.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Sutton, other local dignitaries, community members and students from local schools.
The Mayor opened the Memorial proceedings followed by a question and answer session compeered by Sutton Synagogue's Chairman, Mr. Paul Sarfaty to Mr Eric Cohen, also a member of Sutton Synagogue.
Mr. Cohen and other members of his family left Germany via Holland and arrived in Britain via the 'kinder transport.' Mr. Cohen narrated stories of the experiences he went through along with memories of other family members' who unfortunately did not escape arrest by the Nazis and were not heard from again. His memories also included the terrible events of 'Kristallnacht', an event that affected his family and the community he grew up in.
The interview was followed by a presentation from local sixth form students who had visited the concentration camps and the death chambers and they spoke of the impact the visit had left on them.
This site has been presented in loving memory of Eva and Joe Sarfaty
