M’lava Malka Report
“On the evening of Saturday 3 November, some 75 people gathered at Cedar Road to enjoy a M’lava Malka to celebrate the end of Shabbat with music, song and some entertaining words. The music and song were provided by our own Rev Meir Lev who was accompanied at the piano by Kingston member David Prager.
After a welcome from synagogue Chairman Paul Sarfaty, Rev Lev recited Havdalah and then introduced us to some delightful songs including several in Yiddish which were particularly poignant and much enjoyed by the audience.
Following an excellent supper, guest speaker United Synagogue President Stephen Pack told us about current US initiatives including the work being done by Project Chesed. He did not give too much away on appointment of a new Chief Rabbi other than to indicate that an announcement can be expected around the end of this year. He then answered questions from those present.
Grace after Meals was sung with gusto and was followed by a much appreciated encore from Rev Lev.
The evening ended with a vote of thanks from Mrs Hettie Bourne, with small gifts of appreciation given to those who had entertained us.
A special “thank you” goes to Sutton Charities Committee Chairman Stephen Smullen and his hard-working committee for organising another highly successful evening at the shul.”
