(formerly The Sutton Synagogue Functions Committee (SFC))

This committee was originally formed as the SFC in October 2007 with an aim to revitalise the Shul and create a stimulus to encourage a revival and community spirit that encompasses all social groups and ages.

The concept is inclusiveness by encouraging attendance to religious services which are combined with social functions and participation by the members of the shul in certain parts of the service.
Our first Shabbat lunch in October was a major sell out, and the positive response has encouraged the SFC to mark out this event several times each year.

The Pesach Chazzanut Concert - "An Evening of Music and Song" was the second of our annual productions. Once again we have made the theme audience-friendly, so the emphasis is on participation rather than operatic arrangements.
The Carlebach Kabbalat Shabbat Dinner on 20th June drew 83 people to the Friday night service which was followed by a traditional 3-course candle-lit dinner.  Ladies lit candles in the shul, followed by a US style service and a “folksy” theme.  The atmosphere was electric and greeted with much enthusiasm by all.

We have intellectual events that invoke a stimulus and thought-provoking questions. The "Evening With" series started with The Chief Rabbi and went on to have several other guests which have included Lady Jacobovitz, senior members from the Israeli Embassy and several very successful Question Times with a panel of high profile guests from both political and religious backgrounds.
A full report of each event can be read on the 'noticeboard'.

In September 2013, the SFC was rebranded with the new name of Chaverim ('friends') with a programme of new exciting events planned for the forthcoming years.
Chaverim counts with the committed support of a group of sponsors who are dedicated to the continued and generous sponsorship of kiddushium, lunches and dinners as a means of promoting Sutton Shul as a friendly and inviting place to visit every Shabbat and to encourage our members to support with their regular attendance to all our functions which we can offer at very reduced prices.

Chaverim, along with the Board of Management, helps with any Public Relations matter and will deal with any queries relating to events.   We welcome any suggestions or input you may have to offer, but above all, we look forward to the opportunity of sharing a Shabbat with you!
